Delectable Dolce Rolls: Satisfying Your Sushi Cravings Italian-Style

Italian sushi, often referred to as “Itamae Sushi” or “Itameshi,” is a fusion cuisine that combines traditional Italian ingredients and flavors with the art of Japanese sushi preparation.

Suchi Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Sushi rice (2 cups uncooked rice)
  • Rice vinegar (1/2 cup)
  • Sugar (2 tablespoons)
  • Salt (1 teaspoon)
  • Nori seaweed sheets
  • Fresh fish (such as tuna, salmon) or cooked seafood (shrimp, crab)
  • Vegetables (cucumber, avocado, carrot, etc.)
  • Soy sauce, for dipping
  • Wasabi and pickled ginger, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Sushi Rice:
    • Rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear.
    • Cook the rice according to the package instructions.
    • While the rice is still warm, mix in the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
  2. Prepare the Ingredients:
    • Slice the fish or seafood into thin strips.
    • Cut the vegetables into thin matchstick-like pieces.
  3. Rolling the Sushi:
    • Place a bamboo sushi rolling mat on a clean surface and put a sheet of plastic wrap on top.
    • Place a sheet of nori on the plastic wrap.
    • Wet your hands to prevent the rice from sticking, then spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
    • Lay strips of fish, seafood, and vegetables in a line across the rice.
    • Carefully lift the edge of the bamboo mat and start rolling the nori and fillings away from you, using the mat to shape the roll.
    • Press gently to shape the roll and seal it.
  4. Cutting and Serving:
    • Use a sharp knife dipped in water to slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.
    • Arrange the sushi pieces on a serving plate.
    • Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
