This recipe makes approximately 16 brownies.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Optional Add-Ins (customize to your preference):

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans work well)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) square baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Melt the Butter:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl or using a saucepan on the stovetop, melt the butter until it’s completely liquid.
  3. Mix the Wet Ingredients:
    • In a separate mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Stir until well combined.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
    • Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Sift Dry Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.
  6. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until the batter is well mixed and smooth. Be careful not to overmix.
  7. Optional Add-Ins:
    • If you’re using chocolate chips or nuts, fold them into the batter until evenly distributed.
  8. Transfer to Baking Pan:
    • Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  9. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick or cake tester inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  10. Cool and Cut:
    • Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, you can lift them out using the parchment paper and cut them into squares.
  11. Serve:
    • Serve your homemade brownies and enjoy!

You can also customize them with your favorite toppings like a dusting of powdered sugar, a drizzle of chocolate ganache, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
